How to shorten a URL and get a free QR code using Google URL Shortener.

Why would you need to shorten a URL or website address? There are a few reasons why but two important reasons would be:
1. When sharing a URL or address for a website in a post or an email it is easier to share a shortened version.
2.When Tweeting you are only allowed 140 characters and so a shortened URL will allow you to share more information.
Google URL Shortener is a great tool that will not only help you shorten your URL but it will give you a FREE QR Code for that URL.
Here is a demonstration of how to use this great tool:

How to save money using Microsoft OneNote.

Have you heard of MS OneNote?

If not, you are missing out on an amazing business tool.  I have saved so much money by using just one of the many great features of OneNote. It is the "SEND  to OneNote" option when printing.

  1. Save money on printer cartridges by using the "Send to OneNote" option instead of printing.

I save all of my documents to OneNote and then file them in one of my OneNote notebooks. When I need to share it with a colleague, client, etc. I just attach it to an email. No more faxing for me. In the last year I purchased just one package instead of 3-4 packages of printer paper.

How often do you print a document just to place it in a file?

2.  Instead of printing on paper you can send the document to OneNote and file it in a digital notebook of your choice.

I have not only saved money on printer cartridges but I have saved space and time by eliminating my filing cabinet and going “Paperless.”

The 3 Best Websites To Find Answers

Google.com, eHow.com and YouTube.com are my 3 favorite sites to find answers to any question and solutions to any challenge.

Do you ever receive an error message on your computer and don't know what it means?
Next time you get one, copy or retype the message into the Google Search Box and you will get links to sites or forums with the answer.  I can't tell you how many times I've solved an issue on my computer using this method.

Do you need to learn how to do something? Did you forget how to do something?
Type the question into Google, eHow or YouTube.
Google.com
You can type any question into the Google Search Box and get immediate answers. For example, you can type in:

  • How much is the square root of 81?
  • Restaurants in ___________ and type your zip code to find restaurants in your area.
  • Flight Status for Jet Blue Flight #_____ and type in the Flight number without having to go to the Jet Blue website.
  • How many cups in a gallon?
The list goes on and on.

Type in a question and then you have an option to narrow down the search by:
  • Everything
  • Articles
  • Videos
I like to use eHow because many of the answers are given in a step by step format.  I then copy the steps into M.S. OneNote and make it into a side note and follow along the steps in order. If you don't have OneNote you can print up the directions and then follow them.

If you are a visual learner then you will want to choose the Video option.
You will also love:

YouTube.com
At this site you can watch an instructional video. You have many different choices. If I don't have a lot of time I will choose the shorter videos first.  One day I needed to make coffee on a French Press and didn't know how so I found a video with step by step instructions on YouTube and was able to make my coffee. Thank Goodness!

There are many great sites to use to find information but as I said these are my personal favorites.
Do you have any favorites to share?

Walk with Walgreens for Rewards

Walk with Walgreens is a great program that I learned about on The Apprentice. It's a great concept. You walk to improve your health and get rewards from Walgreens. It's a Win/Win situation why wouldn't you do it?
I joined today and can't wait to get started.  In the video Alison Sweeny mentions about purchasing a pedometer (counts your steps) at Walgreens at a discount but I am all about FREE:) If you have a smartphone you can download a Pedometer App for Free by searching in your App store under "Pedometer." I downloaded one from my iPhone that you can instantly add your music to a playlist to listen to while you walk.
If you have any questions about the app feel free to email me at karen@lovemylessons.com. For more free technology tips, tools and tricks, "LIKE" me at http://www.facebook.com/lmlessons.
To learn more about the program you can do a "Google search" for "Walk with Walgreens" or click on the Walk with Walgreens link above.
Happy Walking!

Would You Like To Have A Personal Genie?

iPhone Siri is like having your very own personal genie?

Siri is Amazing! It's even better than a genie because you get more than three wishes. It's the genie that keeps on giving. Siri is a major time saver and personal assistant.

4 Reasons Why:

1. Siri does what you say.

2. It knows what you mean.

3. It helps you do everyday things.

4. It gives you the information you need to know.

Who wouldn't benefit from this?

What is the Oona?

The Oona is a great new iPhone or Smartphone stand that converts your phone into many different devices. If you are a multitasker you will want this stand.
For me, just the fact that I will be able to attach my phone to my mirror while I put on my make up is a cause to celebrate. It seems I always receive phone calls while I am doing my make-up. I don't like using a bluetooth and I am always looking for a safe place to lay my phone so that I can talk using the speaker and continue to get ready.
This is such a clever device and less than $30.

How does anyone live without Technology?

I stayed overnight at my sister's house and woke up the next morning craving my coffee. One little problem, I didn't know how to use her coffee press and she was still sleeping and I didn't want to wake her up.
Finally, after spending two hours doing my daily Internet searching, it dawned on me to do a Google search on how to use a coffee press! I found two different videos on YouTube. I love YouTube because I'm a visual learner and as much as I love to read I'd rather watch a video to learn something new.

Anyway, back to my coffee. After watching the videos I felt confident enough to use the press. The videos said to wait three minutes after pouring the hot water in to let it steep so I reached for one of my other favorite technology tools, my iPhone.  I set my iPhone alarm for three minutes, as instructed. After waiting three minutes (a very long time) I "pressed the coffee" and I just sat down to enjoy it.

How did we ever exist without technology? I know my grandmother would have loved it! She would have bought my sisters and me a cell phone so she could easily keep in touch with us and she would have loved shopping on QVC and HSN.

Do you have any "Grateful for Technology" stories to share? Add your story to the comment section at the end of this post. I'd love to hear them.
